My Irish Life
We are in the process of acclimating to the weather. There is cold. Wind. Rain. And sun. You can experience all of these over the course of 15 - 20 minutes. It’s crazy. Just dress to be warm and take the layers off as needed.
We have had the opportunity to explore just a bit. A couple of castles (Malahide Castle and Kilkenny Castle). Loved the tours. So much history around here. Sort of reminds me of Italy, but they speak English… if you can catch on to the Irish accent.
We found a really nice home to rent in Dalkey. It is located just south of Dublin and every time we tell people around Dublin where we live they light up and say what a great place Dalkey is. Several have even said that Dalkey is where they dream to find a place to call their own. Often, the next question is “do you sea swim?” What? You mean go into the Irish Sea?! On purpose?!
We have heard from several locals that sea swimming is a major thing here and in Ireland. Given some of their descriptions of what it does for their mind and body, I must admit I am intrigued. I’ll keep you posted should I ever take a dip.
What I am warming up to is the people! They are spectacularly friendly. I have also found that what I thought I LIKED about Guinness beer in America, I LOVE in Ireland! And I am sorry to say that Heineken beer in the U.S.… sucks. But in Amsterdam, it is amazing! And a close second to Guinness in Ireland!
